Hey guys, I was wondering if I can buy a laptop with Intel Celeron M and do a cpu upgrade to a Centrino rather buying a laptop with Centrino already. This way is cheaper. Well, will it be plug and play if I just need to find the same socket cpu. Is the motherboard in a Centrino laptop the same as the Celeron M? Can aprreciate your help. Thx

I think they're RAM and bus speeds are different too.
So it won't be as good as a real Centrino

A "Centrino" isn't a processor. Centrino is a package of different hardware Intel calls "Intel Centrino" (Chipset, Processor, etc.).

Upgrading a processor on a laptop isn't like plug and play like on a desktop. Your power connector might not be able to handle the extra power your new processor requires. Second, the new processor you buy must be in the same socket as your old one and have the same front side bus speed (FSB).

centrino is barely the combination of the geared up in prompt, skill administration and the specfic cpu/chipset that qualifies a notebook and a centrino notebook yet celerons are nonetheless too gradual and lacking in l2 memory your greater effective off with a center 2 duo lap or turion x2 lap in the adventure that your thinking improve and as lots memory ( a minimum of a million GB ) and preferablly XP professional sp2 ( verses Vista )

not necessarily ...it can be the same socket but you have to know the board tolerance...forget dell there of no help at all for service...check the board, not the manufacturers website as many use aftermarket boards and see if anyone has done it or its a known upgrade first so you dont waste your money.
