I responded to this because some berk has given you a thumbs down - a shame as what you say is entirely true.
Folks were paying money in, getting no benefut from it - only to get overpriced products in return. Not the best deal going. I do feel for them, but I think the same mentality which lets them buy a £50 vacuum cleaner for £4.99 a week for the next 8 months comes into play. Beleive the hype, see that £4.99 is affordable each week and not really worry about "details" like value.
It is the same with credit cards that people max out and pay the minimum amount on, the interest they pay is phenomenal.

Just what I have been saying. The other thing is that these "Christmas clubs" charge top wack prices for everything too.
In any case, most of the big supermarkets sell vouchers that could be used to pay for Christmas. I just wonder if people use the clubs because the money is fixed in there and you can't get it back as you could in a PO account.
I do feel so sorry for the people who have lost money. Maybe some govt legislation to regularise these firms would help. I have one tip for people. NEVER EVER pay for anything in cash or debit card that is over £100 as you have no protection. When the furniture place went bust I got my money back as I had used a credit card; the salesman in the shop tried very hard make me use cash.

Hi Scotty! What you do is to place your money in a building society 30 days notice account so that the imposed delay quashes any 'impulse buying' desires you might have. Then, around the first or second week in November, you apply to withdraw your money which 30 days later is available for you to have a jolly and enjoyable Christmas buying spree. You will have a little more cash than you put in, too, because you've earned 4+ percent interest. Furthermore, your money has been kept in a safe place and not allegedly (have to put that bit in for legal reasons!) financing the luxurious lifestyles of those who set up the scam - sorry, delete that latter word - I really meant to write 'scheme'! On a serious note, I bet the directors of Fare Pack will not lose out in any way, unlike thousands of their clients. ('Unfair Pack' is more like it....)

Sometimes it is easier to pay into something like this and normally you are guaranteed to have your goods.. When you are on a low income (generally through no fault of your own)!! A couple of pounds a week throughout the year helps to avoid having to get into debt. After all you have paid all year so you don't end up in debt. I have had park hampers and goodies in the past and have found it easier to pay this way..Also saves the temptation to miss all you bills and go shopping because you have paid for you goodies.!! Not everyone is able to save money...

Have a heart. Some people find it hard to avoid temptation. It must be difficult to leave money in a bank if you are hard up.

well done Paul.
hit the nail on the head. they are silly people who don't know how to save. put small amounts in a pot and save up over the year. that's what i have to do every year to pay for my car tax and insurance.
