what an unusual question!!?? i don't pay that much attention to the way other women sit. maybe as you get older your circulation isn't quite as good as it used to be? i was always told that sitting cross legged gave your really bad varicose veins, so i make an effort NOT to sit cross legged so much, i don't want my legs to look 'icky'. you would probably have to ask an old lady why?

when those older women were young they use to sit with their legs cross, the problem now is that, their bones and ligaments wont allow them to stretch that far, at times is difficult for them. The young women, well is a way of being feminine, and sexy and showing some leg.
:)

Girls and women who know better, sit with their legs crossed at the ankles. Not because they want to show less skin. The reason behind this is crossing legs up higher could result in broken veins. Those unsightly purple veins in the legs. And also it is a manner-able way for a lady to sit. Has nothing to do with age. Has everything to do with knowing the proper way to sit as a lady! God bless****

I'm 29. My 6th grade lucnh lady always told us we'd get spider veins... and I have a few, but not so much like others my age.
Why?
Because I followed the example of Oliver North's military wife in the 1980's. I didn't get the Iran Contra affair, but I remember clearly the commentator pointing out the way she sat, military style, legs crossed at the ankles. And I remember thinking, that would solve my vein problem.
I've done that ever since, more often than not.

Hi. I believe girls and young women sit like that because that's proper manners and decency. Not that older women aren't decent enough but they wear a saree(If in context with Indian women), and young girls don't wear sarees. They wear skirts or pants.A girl sitting with legs spreaded gives wrong messages and can look dirty and lustful. It just isn't simple manners.

Most "older" women were taught to sit with their legs crossed at the ankles, it is deemed more lady like because it shows less skin.

Its comfortable for young women, when you get older the hip bones hurt more and it get uncomfortable after a while.
I have two slipped disks on my lower back, and it starts to hurt after a sort while when I sit crossed leg.

Because as you get older you find out that sitting cross legged gives you spider and vericose veins. So you cross your legs at the ankles!

Welll, might be because they are a little arrogant at that period... Older women would have seen much of life by the time they become old and understood their helplessness in the vast world. We are yet to learn, isn't it? And its the peroid we'll be building our body postures and we feel it comfortable to sit cross-legged.... :-)
