the others? was he that selfish that he wanted to be the only one to survive? All he had to do was say "hey i think I know what Jigsaw meant by the rainbow and the back of your mind" and get them all out, end of story....but the idiot kept getting the numbers and kept it to himself

No it was because there was only 1 needle inside the safe with the cure to the poison in it. If you listen to the dialogue then they say it near the beginning.
So if Xavier had told them then they all would have wanted to get to it.

He wanted to ensure his survival by knowing the numbers he thought he could figure out the combination to the lock. He didn't tell anyone because he didn't care about them he just wanted the numbers on the back of their necks.

Well, I guess he was a criminal at heart and prison couldn't teach him how to trust and be trusted. He had it in him throughout the movie, to want things for himself even if others had to die.

well, he didnt trust the othe people to tell him the right number and i think in a desperate situation like that a lot of people would have done the same.

yeah well what he did was stupid because if he slipped up and ended up dieng earlier on then no one would of figured it out. but i think that was smart.it was grose how he found out his own number by tearing off some of his skin, but it was kool.
