Both are poor fielders.
Yet Laxman will be a good choice on pacy and bouncy SA grounds.Recall his exploits in and against Australia.
Ganguly's best days are over.

My friend, do have any confusion of not taking Ganguly and Laxman after that thrashing by South-Africa.I believe Power and Vengsarkar has done a good job in re thinking in the team management after More has gone.In total I want Ganguly and Laxman to be back in side.

I strongly feel that the present one day squad should be retained for the entire one day series in South Africa. After the series is over, performnance of each player should be assessed and non-performers should be axed. For the Test series, Saurav Ganguly and V.V.S. Laxman should be included and if they perform well in the Test series, they should be included in the one day squad for the forthcoming series against Sri Lanka and West Indies. Also new talented players shou,le be included in the one day series against Sri Lanka dn West Indies to assess their capabilities, so that before the team for World Cup is selected we should have a list of atleast 30 talented probables and before finalising the selection of players, the selected probables should be split into 2 teams and couple of matches should be plahyed between them to assess the bnetter talent amongst the 30 probables.

Yes they should, especially Laxman. He has been undone with many times, and it is time to end the deadlock.

I have been stressing this point for a long time, but of no avail. Simply if Vengsarkar says he is not fit doesnt help. He is a solid batsman, and he will come good, even in ODIs. Please give him some chance, and he will prove it, as he did in Australia after being sacked from the World Cup 2003.

SELECTION OF SOURAV is very important.

BUT NEED TO DO MORE?

Important is the

CAPABILITY

RESPONSILITY

ACCONTABILITY.

All these will come ONLY-IF

Selection and benefit / payment of

BCCI
SELECTOR
COACH
CAPTAIN
PLAYERS

are linked to performance in the respective capacity.

FOR EXAMPLE Shri RAHUL

1) is a great TEST PLAYER, can play for TEST but not ODI. What he scored in last ODI, he tried to be retain in the team. In ODI total score by INDIVIDUAL along with rate of score is very very important. He can never play fast. Therefore he shall not be choosen for ODI.

2) South Africa was 6 out with 75 runs. Still he could not control upto scoring 277. He is the worst CAPTAIN.
He shall not be choosen for CAPTAINCY.

Then who is CAPTAIN?

Choose some better capable. If connot be select the best player of one ODI as CAPTAIN in the next Match.

no way - let us not go backward - V V S should play in the test series, no doubt - but, 1 dayers are definitely for the hungry youthful brigade - unfortunately, Indians seem to have perfected the knack of satiating young players hunger with money - so, performance off the field seems to be more lucrative.
we should emulate the australians in matters of player's salary - pay high wages, in keeping with performance - and (sacrilege) all advertisement endorsements should be banned - if the team or individaul player is used, then the money should go to the BCCI, for disbursement, after the player retires - in the course of a players career, he should focus on his play, and not on his pass book.

ganguly is the obvious choice and should have been a part for long but due to internal politics he is out. but laxman has class but not fit to play cricket as he plays for himself only but not for the team. all can say about his achievements, his 281 against the aussies but he will play only when he is under pressure and is forced to play. for ganguly, to my knowledge he is the best player who can come down the track for hitting an fast bowler. he is fearless guy. he must be in the team. even though he has the ego probs and other things he must be in. he has good rappo with sachin and so must open the innings. shewag must be sent back to india for getting practice and jaffer ( i don't know what for he is there) must come back and have a good practice here.

I don't personally think that bringing back laxman and Ganguly would make much of a difference but if the present team which according to me is really talented is given enough encouragement and confidence to play their full potential we can be world beaters................

No change is necessary . The thing which is needed to stop the players from doing any advertisement till the world cup. Also two teams should be made side by side and both must be given chance to play and only best out of best should be chooses for the world cup. No thought should be given to the popularity or seniority. We want only best players to play .
