Owls are often seen as messengers in many cultures. Googling "animal messengers" or "animal symbolism" will provide thousands of links.
Generally speaking, owls are a symbol of secrets, of seeing through masks, keen sight into matters unknown, a link between the world of shadow and light, (Probably because they are most often seen at dusk and dawn, the transition time.) clairvoyance, magic, deception, omens and portents, and other such stuff. Basically, just about anything considered occult.

Ok,
Most likely the owl has some sort of prey in his sight when you came along and took him from his meal. The lights from your car had maybe blinded him causing him not to be able to veer away from your vehicle.
Owls are quite helpful and by no means bad luck. Enjoy nature at your doorstep. Now if the wof comes calling outside, then I might get a little worried. A hooting owl outside. No worry for me.

Well it may be a significant time of year for owls, when they are more active and noticable. I really like owls, many say they portend trouble or bad luck, but Ive seen many and never had anything noticable happen. My freind and I were once riding our bycycles on the bike trail by the river about 3:00 a.m. one night, and two huge barn owls came hovering over us just to see what we were doing. they hooted at us, but didnt attack us or anything. just checking us out. it was spooky, tho ,cause they were huge about 4 or 5 feet wingspans! but they didnt bother us, and went back to their tree when we passed.

Owls used to be the sacred birds of the goddess of wisdom, and Her messengers, before they became much maligned birds of bad omen.
So take it as a good sign that an owl is around your house. It's probably saying:"No harm done, I'm fine."

owls are not bad luck.... maybe it is a sign telling you that it was not your fault and the owl is OK, don't read too much into it. owls are known for wisdom, through our stories, i have never heard of them being bad luck. i think you just feel bad for what happened and the owls are telling you not to, in your own conscience

It is not up to me to tell you what to believe, but traditionally the owl is a bad omen. These encounters are not good. If I were you, I would get a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, light candles around it, and pray to Her for protection.

They say an owl is an omen of death. They say black cats are ill omens
too! I love black cats. And if I saw an owl, I would welcome him as a
friend.
Death is symbolic sometimes. It might just mean the "death", or end of
a period of something that has been going on in your life.
