Even with his firing he has remained a classy guy. He helped clean up the program, he improved graduation rates and didn’t shy away from suspending star players. He was loved by the athletes, the faculty and the administration. On the other hand he has over seen a slow decline capped by a 6-6 season. His team has had recent embarrassing on field incidents with LSU and FIU. And it doesn’t matter how classy a guy you are it seems Miami will always have a “thug” image.

In response to t r who said “he had guys getting arrested left and right.” Since Coker has been head coach there have been two arrests that I’m aware (if I’ve missed one feel free to add it). Antrel Rolle in 2004 for resisting arrest and Willie Williams in 2006. for violation of probation. The hurricanes were not aware of Williams arrest record prior to his signing. After spending a few days in jail for violating probation Williams had his admission to Miami scrutinized, delayed, and eventually allowed, provided he adhered to strict academic and off-field ground rules. He has since asked to be released for the team.

Let’s take Ohio State on the other hand who no one calls “thugs”. Since 2001 I can recall the following arrests (I may have missed some so please feel free to add on). Steve Bellisari in 2002 for drunk driving, Marco Cooper in 2002 for drug abuse and carrying a concealed weapon, Jonathan Skeete in 2005 for drug trafficking, Erik Haw in 2005 for possession of marijuana, Santonio Holmes in 2006 for domestic violence. Do I even need to mention Maurice Clarett? I know he’s not a current player but I think he gets an honorable mention. Why do we call Miami thugs and not the Buckeyes? I’m not picking on Ohio State I just choose them because they are number one right now, sadly many universities are this way. The problem goes far beyond the hurricanes and yet they get the reputation and all the press.

Yeah he cleaned up the program, right. He had guys getting arrested left and right. He had two guys involved in crimes with weapons(Guns), not including Pata, in the last two years. He has had two of the biggest brawls in the last five years. He players are thugs, and he has a tough time controlling his team. Furthermore, if you are a coach and you have to make a comment, " I don't want any of my players to have guns" as he did, there is something wrong with your team.

Secondly, He was beginning to lose. His teams were way overated. This last season was just a culmination of how bad the program has become. The teams have been way overated as of late and shown that. I don't know if Coker is a bad guy, but he needed to go, and it needed to be long ago.

They should have 'fired' all the thugs they have there that they mistakenly call player-athletes.
