IN Dallas? Highland Park, University Park, Kessler Park...really anything with a 'Park' in it's name.

A suburb of Dallas? Southlake, Coppell, Allen

I live in Flower Mound, and it is lovely, the schools are exemplary, the neighborhoods are clean and well-patrolled, I can honestly say, there are NO bad areas in Flower Mound, the worst part is some nasty apartments, but even those are not half-bad. you can buy a home in Flower Mound from 160K for three bedroom. Lewisville is also an option, lower cost, a few more problems, you get what you pay for. I agree, the Frisco-Plano area sucks, too damn much traffic, and like the other person said, not a damn thing to do except shop. Grapevine lake is nearby to me, but we have n=had drought conditions, so all of the lakes are low. Southlake is really nice , if you have a lot of money

Stay away from the Plano/ Frisco area. That area lures people in with cheap new homes, but the downside are the people, lack of community, and the only thing to do there is shop. If you have kids, yes the schools are great, but if you are single or a young couple I would reccommend the North Dallas area.

I wouldn't actually recomend living in Dallas. If you have money go for West Plano or Frisco. If you want to live like that but don't quite have enough money try the surrounding suburbs of Little Elm, Prosper, McKinney, or Allen. You drive a bit further but you get a lot more house for the money.

Lots of possibilities here depending on your income or wealth.
Suburbs like Garland and Richardson and Plano are not too far from metropolitan Dallas and all have homes in every price range as well as good schools. In Dallas itself the Preston Road area, Walnut Hill and Highland Park if your pockets are pretty deep. Wherver you decide...get air conditioning!

Think North Dallas not South.

If you want to get away from all the concrete and shopping malls, north Oak Cliff is a pretty cool place. It's just a few minutes from downtown, and its Bishop Arts District is a nice place to eat and window shop.

Apartment rents are more reasonable than, say, Uptown or anyplace downtown. And if you like wildlife, you're not too far from the Trinity River. My wife and I used to live in an apartment in north Oak Cliff, and we regularly saw hawks, owls and cranes from our apartment window and balcony.

my heart is in Texas, but I've lived most of my life in Kansas (darn it), but I have lived in Denton, Dallas, DeSoto, Landcaster, Mc Kinney, Frisco (that place is so small from what I remember), Plano is neat if your into the old tv show Dallas, the ranch is in Plano & a big tourist attraction.

Depends what your lifestyle is and what things you consider important. I briefly lived in north Dallas and thought it was ok, but I don't want you living there in case I ever move back.
