If you are just starting to take classes, the outfit sounds perfectly fine. Try to wear something comfortable. But obviously if you're gonna perform it's time to dress up!

You should wear a skirt. Salsa is a hot, sexy dance. The professionals wear some bikini-type tops with sparkly skirts, but for starters, wear something flirty and fun.
