A "radian" is that angle subtended at the centre of a circle by an arc whose length is equal to the radius of the circle and that 360* is = 2pi radians

draw a circle with a radius of R.
the arc with a length of R is one 1 Radian by definition.

a radian is a measure of an angle

1 rad = 180/π degrees

______________________________
To make it easier,

draw a circle
call its center point C

select a point on the circle
call that point point A

now, measure a length on the circumference of the circle, from point A, until you reach a length equal to the radius.

You will end up in a point.
call that point point B

Thus, angle ACB measures 1 radian.

The second part of Doug's answer is the correct definition, and lots of other answerers gave it too. The other information they gave is useful and maybe helps you get a handle on it, but only this one is the definition.

1 radin = 180/π degrees, or about 57.295779513082320876798154814105 degrees.

If you measure the radius of a circle along it's circumference, it subtends an angle of 1 radian.
