Pets that snuggle, play or just be by you when you're feeling bad can help a lot. I have dogs, cats, chickens and horses. It is funny how much pleasure I get out of the company of my chickens. They don't even want me around-just their food. Often though, their behavior is so much more pleasant than humans, I have to appreciate them.

Also chickadees light up my day. When I fill the bird feeders, the chickadees so everything but land on my person. They are so incredible friendly in spite of their tiny size.

This is definitely an interesting idea the people of Boston and Newtown came up with to help calm patients and others in pain or in sadness, but it is a great one. If a happy, cheerful pet came into my home or hospital room to help me get through a tough time just like how the victims in Boston at the moment are experiencing, I'd smile and enjoy the company of a furry friend. Whenever I was upset, I'd go crying to my hamster. I had many other pets, but for some reason I was drawn to my hamster for comfort. Even though she was tiny and I was big, I felt that she was more calmer than usual when I cried and that made me feel better. There's just something about animals, I don't know what it is. But even though we can't have a real conversation with them, doesn't mean that we don't understand each other. I know this is going deep, but the eyes are the windows to the soul. Any living being can understand one another through our eyes.
