How does someone get addicted to heroine?

with my job i see a lot of IV drug abusers, I just don't understand what would make them even try to put a dirty, nasty needle in their arm

Like alcoholics and any other person who feels the need to use drugs heroin users/addicts are usually introduced to the drug by a friend.I doubt if there is one addict who thought they would end up an addict.Its a series of just once more until BANG one day the realisation hits,its got you.
Heroin is addictive because of the feeling of serenity and peace it gives the user.However the more that is used the more they need .It is a downward spiral all the way. Addiction actually begins the second time its used because they are using based on the memory of the first time feeling.
As for why anyone would use a dirty/used syringe,when the withdrawal sets in and it starts it feels like a Mack truck has hit you and vomiting and dry-retching alternate with diarrhoea.All that is important is to get the heroin in to your system.The addict is shaking so much and sweating they often miss the vein and end up with blood running down their arms from several attempts that leave veins "popped" and large painful bubbles appear on the arm. No, its not a pretty sight!
No addiction is. You may think what I have exaggerated,do you know what? I toned the sights Ive seen down, so you can just get an idea. Please don't think smoking "ice" is less harmful. Ive seen tragedy from "ice,in a far less time.

The nerve cells build new receptors even after first time use of a drug, because the drug causes your nerve cells to be stimulated by the drug, for which the nerve cells are not equipped with enough receptors..... so, the more you use it, the more you receive all that extra stimulant, which causes your nerve cells to build more and more receptors to pass on all the stimulation to your brain. The more you use the drug the more you crave for it, because the physiology of your body has changed> those extra receptors causes you to crave for more of the stimulants. No drugs= jobless extra receptors. It's like sewing more pockets to your pants to carry more coins. You use the money and they become empty.... the pockets are empty, but they are still there. Those extra receptors don't just disappear when you stop. This is why you go into a delirium when you try to stop.
People start using drugs for different reasons. I'd say it's mostly curiosity and a self destructive tendency that causes people to even try it.

You don't have to start by using a needle. It can make a person feel like they are on top of the world. That's why it's popularity in poor neighborhoods.

Heroine is abusive, all drugs are. When you first try it and get the chill of it and the high, you wont stop.
So PLEASE PLEASE if you are using heroine or wanna use DONT and think of the people you might hurt , and think of how you will be hurting yourself in your life.

heroine addiction is easy. take one dose and you're hooked. they may use dirty needles because sterile ones are not easily come by for junkies. and they don't take time to clean the ones they have.

People have the ability to get addicted to anything, biting your nails can be addictive.

Drugs are a form of escape from reality, unfortunately reality is their life so they lose that too.
