Go to the county clerks office in the county that your child was born. They can help you there. You don't say which country you're from. This answer is good for the United States.

Inquire of the registrar of births; you can (for a fee) get additional copies. Get several, so you have some for your file. In the United States, each county has its own registrar; for other countries, ask at your local government office. You can probably get one within a week of applying.

Go to your local Vital Statics Office and request a copy. There maybe a fee involved or see if you can use the hospital record (unofficial copy) instead.
