I worked in the north sea on various oil fields for over 20 years. He will need to have a survival certificate for working offshore before most employers will consider him. Costs around 500 quid at several centres around the UK. Does he have any skills or is he just looking for a labouring job?

Hi, My brother works for a company called MAERSK, and is contracted to BP. He works in the oil fields out of Norway.
The course yo MUST have to enable you to work offshore, is an Offshore Survival Certificate, which can be obtained in Hull, from a company called Hull Offshore Training Association (HOTA for short) It currently costs around £775 all in, which he would need to pay himself. The wages on the rigs, after tax, are not so good that it justifies being away from home for 3 weeks at a time. They used to be good, but alas, the government soon put a stop to that. Once you have worked offshore for a while, you WOULD see an increase in your wages, but only after you have showed the company that employs you, that you can actually work hard.
I would suggest buying a van and becoming a self employed courier, as in the same 12 hours you would work if you where offshore, you could earn between £300 - £700 per day as a courier, if you know what your doing!!! Its all about having the right type of vehicle, your location and knowledge of the road system, there is loads of work out there for couriers, if only they knew where to look....

come to alberta. No experience needed. He'd start as a leasehand but we need oil workers so bad it won't take him long to work as a rig pig or a driller
The money is good but your usually away for 2 or three weeks at a time and then home for one week depending on the time of the year.
