Some ancient societies, such as Greece and Japan, fostered erotic love bonds between experienced warriors and their apprentices. It was believed that a man and youth who were in love with each other would fight harder and with greater morale. A classic example of a military force built upon this belief is the Sacred Band of Thebes.
It was organized in 378 BC by the Theban commander Gorgidas
He claims inspiration from Plato's Symposium. Although there are some earlier writings this is the earliest example I can find of a man actually 'coming out' as such and this could have alot to do with the Greek acceptance of homosexuality!

lol, probably someone from the greek era.

You know that the greek god, Zeus was bisexual? He had many wives, and when he wanted spice, he had young boys to 'play' with.

Also, homosexuality was a very understood and accepted thing in greek times, so most likely -- someone from that era.

The first instance is lost to history, although one of the earliest recorded histories is the story of Jonathan and David...
"And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle."
