Tough question. I would have to say yes and no.
I mean, I think since in the history of atheism, we never killed people for disbelieving the religion, or killing people for being different: witches and homosexuals. We basically accept everything, while big religion like Christianity just made a set or rules and never became so open up just because it was the most easiest.
Atheism is just a sense of open mindedness, not much of a belief, though nothing truely defines belief. But even within open mindedness, people still can be ignorant, by saying "Christian are stupid to believe this tuff, they are dumb."
So, I think yes atheism would bring a bit more peace, but still ignorance will be there, like how Christians are ignorant to ignore the facts that there is no God, we are all ignorant.
So, yes atheism could possibly bring a bit more peace, but ignorance will still bring destruction, so the answer would possibly be No, but...

HI Wombat
Since there has never been a solution found to war or fighting amongst ourselves, I say no, as Sean mentioned, they have already tried that in early Russia and China.
Just a note here though. Even if it had been with all the Russian people, Chinese people living in 'Utopia' and us in the U.S. just miserable with ourselves because we don't have communism, would you really want to live in a world without the feeling of something else out there besides we live these few years and then we're gone? I'm sorry but I don't understand the point, unless existence IS the point. Maybe, if you had never been exposed to the Bible or any forms of religion, one might have a different perspective. It still seems like sooner or later you would ponder questions of mortality, creation, purpose......;and, in a strict atheist society, that's a lot of bottled up curiosity.
The end of ignorance may come someday (have hope Milon), but it will probably be after a few other things have ended; like this plane of human existence. It's probably a fair bet that somebody out there is always going to be uneducated, unaware, or uninformed about something. May Blessings Find All

No, religion dictates a lot of how a person acts or thinks and aetheism is like a religion in that way. The solution for world peace is less greed and more giving. There will never be an end of ignorance.

I'm a believer who flirted with atheism/agnosticism and chose belief. I also understand the choice of and empathize with those who chose atheism/agnosticism; I mean, I REALLY get it.
The abolition of religion and religious practice isn't a cure, but neither is the propagation of religious ideals. The key is tolerance. You don't have to believe what I believe, just respect my belief; hold me to the same standard.
Religion helped bring humanity to the human, and that shouldn't be forgotten. I just think that we've outgrown the absolutism of it all.

Humans need something to believe in and hope. What you believe in is of little relevance.Hope usually follows belief closely.
If we ever achieve world peace it will only come about after ignorance, prejudice and intolerance have been debunked by education.
Have a listen to Bob Marley's "War" That will totally answer your question.

Atheist societies have killed 2 billion people in the last century alone, so no they don't represent any form of peace.
Also I've found atheist to be the most ignorant of all mankind because they don't ever make any effort to accomplish anything but just talk about it.

Atheism that says "there is no god," is no better than a religion that says "there is a god." We can start learning as soon as we realize we don't know the answer.
