There were actually a surprising number given the times. Most of the resident men were interned in camps just like the Japanese in the US. Most of the diplomats, embassy and consulate officials and many businessmen were returned (exchanged) via the Soviet Union.

However, American wives of Japanese nationals were considered to be Japanese citizens and if they did not actually request repatriation were allowed to stay in Japan with their husbands and families.

(I read an amazing book many years ago about an American (white) woman married to a Japanese who spent the war living in Japan, it was exceptional and I have forgotten the title, but if you can find it, it will answer your questions splendidly.....)

Yes, just like the germans in america, the japs in america. When **** hit the fan they locked everyone up.
