Every time I go out with my mother people think we are lesbians. I don't understand. I'm 13 and my mother is 48. Can't people tell the difference? To most people I don't look like a thirteen year old because I'm very tall. Can you explain this or tell me what I can do o make it stop? It's driving me nuts to the point where I'm afraid to go out in public. I get really nervous and scared. I fear people at this point.

What a strange question. Maybe you could stop holding hands with her in public. And kissing her is a dead giveaway, that's got to stop. I might try wearing a a t-shirt that says, im black marker, "WE ARE NOT GAY." Seriously though, it's sad that people even care whether you are or not... so there is a bigger question: how do we get people to stop being bigots when it comes to sex? The answer to that one begins with education.

The first thing you need to be aware of, is you and your mother know the truth and hold onto that as that is the most important thing. As for what other people think. Are people literally coming up to you on a regular basis and assuming your gay or is it a comment someone said at some point in time that is playing on your mind and making you think and assume other people are saying or thinking it when they're not? Either way you can not let other people's assumptions dictate your life. Life is too short to let something as crazy as this become such an issue you can not even step out of the front door. You are 13 you have the rest of your life in front of you, a whole world of possibilities and you are willing to give that up either because of people's assumptions or your own paranoia. Don't do it! Talk to your mother - does she feel the same, is she thinking the same. You will probably find she doesn't or if she does you can work on this together.

Height probably isn't the issue. How old do you LOOK? If you wear makeup and look older than 13, people are going to view you as an adult.

Just tell anyone who thinks you two are a lesbian couple that you are mother and daughter. Simple as that.

In the words of Mizz Bonnie Raitt:

"Let's give 'em something to talk about..."

Don't reward ignorance w/ attention.

You're not the problem, hunny. Its the ignants of the world.

Why are you scared of what people you will most likely never see again... or probly never saw in the first place... think of you?

It's stupid.
