Cluster surveys are a type of cluster sampling, used to try and represent a large demographic by taking a small part of it. For example, in the mortality survey in Iraq that used Cluster Sampling, they defined various types of areas that should be sampled, then randomly picked a number of areas that met the various criteria (clusters). Then they randomly surveyed people living within that area.
