Are you thinking too much? Thats what usually gets in the way when your trying to sleep. Your wearing out your body when you think too much. It keeps your muscles tense and causes high blood pressure. There is a natural way to release the excessive thoughts. Mantra meditation. The meditation teaches you how to relax your mind and allows the past mental stress to be released. Stress in the body causes unwanted reactions from daily living. These reactions make the body tense. When you want to sleep you remember everything you did or wanted to do during the day. Get your mind to shut down and relax and your body will do the same. This is a safe and natural method to help you sleep. But remember, it's like food, you have to take it everyday.

You need to start winding down earlier than usual if you want to be sleepy by bedtime. For e.g. don't drink tea. coffee. coke or any caffiene drinks after 8pm if you were to be in bed by 11pm. Chocolate, sugar and late night snacking can also make it hard to sleep at night. Go into a health shop and ask the sales assistant for a night time tea, something like cammomile is great at relaxing your mind and can help people who suffer from insomnia. Often it can be a psychological thing where the more you think about it the harder it is to get to sleep. In situations where you are tossing and turning, your thoughts are not resting and you are recounting those same sheep then get up and have a cup of cammomile tea. Our brains are like computers, you need to close your files down at the end of each day so you can put your brain to sleep...once you have done that you will sleep easy. Good Luck, ciao.

Get a sleep number bed...... Well really it all depends on your life and what medications that you are using. For starters you make sure you eat a decent meal earlier in the end of the day, like between 4-6pm. Also make sure that you exercise early in the day, noonish. Back to the night time you start to relax around 8pm and do you best not to do anything except read a book, play a slow thinking game or do crosswords, till you get sleepy. Try to get in the bed at about 9:30pm-11pm. This will not work right off the bat, but over time you will train your body to rest, and you will overcome insomnia.

Try a nice warm bath, and reading also. Do not keep looking at the clock. If you cannot sleep, get up for a little while and walk around. It's hard to kep your mind of things, but try to think of
something relaxing, sitting at the beach and listening to the waves, the crackle of a campfire. If it continues see a doctor.
If you can take a liquid, get some benedryl. It is used for allergy, and hives but it causes drowsiness. It may help you to at least
fall asleep.
Say your prayers too.

first you have to know why you are not sleeping, is it something you ate? are you too keyed up when you try to sleep? is your mind racing? is your bed uncomfortable or unsafe? is your nose to stuffy?

Get a system. Each night before you go to bed do the same thing. I play 20 minutes of a dull computer game, feed the fish, check the doors, brush my teeth mess with my alarm clock then lay down. If i am not asleep in ten minutes I read a book. A relaxing safe type book, not something about hunting snakes, some safe slightly dull book. a trip to a used book store will help you find tons of them to keep on hand. Sometimes i read ten minutes sometimes for two hours. Either way I find it helps me rest better then roaming around the house all night.

Try doing something relaxing like talking a bath. Also, warm milk does work. Or eat some left over turkey! Turkey has a protein in it that is instrumental in regulating circadian rhythms. It will make your body go into sleep mode.

Do whatever makes you sleepy. For some, it's a hot bath just before bedtime, for others it's a glass of wine, still others nod off reading a book.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

Why are you not allowed to take pills? Some suggestions are to try a warm bath, a glass of warm milk or meditation.
