Just like you can truly be sad you can truly be happy. So if happiness is not true what is it false. So what is it you just recieved an invite to dinner from a friend you have not seen in a while are you truly happy or is the happiness false. you are truly happy.

I have serious doubts that true happiness exists. I think it is what it is. Old friends or new friends you must take them as lightly as possible because they are probably doing that same thing to you. Finding a true friend is a super rare thing so don't be suprised if a "friend" needs/wants something and then probably won't be the same quality of friend once they receive that item.

I think when people use the word "truly" they mean excessively happy, and it refers to euphoria. People can be happy with many things but not ecstatic about them, and that's fine. Truly happy could also mean that every little thing is correct, as in truly happy in a marriage could be caused by every little thing being correct, but that is truly too much to ask because people are human and by that fact nothing is going to be pure bliss or always be pure bliss.

When you say "so if happiness is not true ...." ...well happiness is true, it's the "truly happy" that isn't always.
The "what is false" part of your question doesn't fit the equasion as it shows you don't understand what what the WORDS "truly happy" imply.

I agree with you. Any bit of happiness that we get is true and real for that moment of happiness. The only catch is that happiness never lasts long. The everlasting happiness or absolute happiness is a concept and not a reality. What we can do of course is to constantly keep striving for maximising our happy moments. One thing that helps in this is to accept how small and minuscule we are in the context of the great and diverse universe of which we are a part ,,,,,,,, such acceptance would help us reduce our expectations from ourselves and also for ourselves which can truly reduce our periods of unhappiness and at the same time we can keep deriving our moments of happiness from every little small things that our life unfailingly keeps giving us!!

When people speak of true happiness, they are not talking about the temporary kind from receiving as dinner invitation. They are talking about getting your life together where each and every aspect are going just they way you want forever and ever. This does happen from time to time, and we should revel in it when it happens, but it doesn't last forever and ever. The reason to roll in temporary true happiness is because sooner or later, stuff happens. Life gets messed up; therefore, when you find that state of mind, feel it for all it is worth. Hopefully, it will roll around again and again.

I don't disagree, but I have to question how one can tell "true happiness."

Can anyone say he or she is truly happy or truly miserable? The only basis of comparison we have is our own experience, which is completely subjective.

I'm with you on this one.

True happiness comes from within and stems from a contentment with life - but you have to work for it.

I am happy with my life and the people around me (family, friends, etc) but I'm firmly of the opinion that if you don't like something, then you change it. Too many people are willing to sit around on their butts moaning instead of doing something to change.

False happiness stems from acquisition and greed - but most people can never get enough of material things.

the happiness is happiness no need to emphasize with the adjectives- true or real- it lies wilyhin. no need to search elsewhere. it is not of mere physical comfort or physical enjoyment. it is a pleasurable union of our mind (soul) and self (spiritual).
