I need a type of wood that would be able to hold up with high humidity and heat. Ive been told Medium Density Fiber was good wood, but i would like a second opinion. Keep in mind that the cage is going to be pretty big.(around 72" high)

Gum wood. No joke, its tougher than oak. It's a little hard to work with because of being so hard.

My husband and I have iguanas, and he built a 6ft by 6ft by 4ft heavy duty cage for our large reptile. He used pressed board, and regular 2 by 4,s, and plastic coated fencing for the front. We put the green grass-like covering you can get at pet shops. We used that to cover pcp piping for the reptile to climb on. No special wood. Don't know what kind of reptile you have, but this has worked perfectly for the last three years. I would suggest consulting a woodworking business, since they should know everything about wood, such as a business who installs decks. Last resort, if the wood has to withstand considerable humidity, find a deck installer in Florida.

My friend used fiberboard with oak 2x4's to reinforce the corners. He also used a piece of plexiglass for the door.

I'd use ipe (pronounced, I believe ee-pay). It is a highly-resistant wood used for decks. It's very good looking.

no , fiberboard will disolve in moisture, actually i would think you would want to use something really water resistant, build a frame of teak and then put welded wire on it, or you could do a welded stainless frame.
