Have people ever been allowed up in the Statue of Liberty torch, or is that a myth? And what's up there today?

I heard people were at one time allowed up to the torch through a staircase but others told me that was untrue.

They used to allow people up the stairs into the torch. It holds a limited amount of people, one way only on the steps. The problem of moving people easily, age of the structure, they quit allowing access.

yes you could at one time go up into the torch

they stoped allowing tha because they were afraid that the arm couldnt hold that weight. she 120 years old you know

Acutaly it's a ladder.... and yes they use to let anyone up there.... but they felt it wasn't safe enugh for public access at some point...
