Adolf Hitler (help·info) (April 20, 1889 – April 30, 1945) was Chancellor of Germany from 1933, and "Führer" (leader) of Germany from 1934 until his death. He was leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei or NSDAP), better known as the Nazi Party.
Hitler gained power in a Germany facing crisis after World War I. Using propaganda and charismatic oratory, he was able to appeal to the economic need of the lower and middle classes, while sounding resonant chords of nationalism, anti-Semitism and anti-communism. With the establishment of a restructured economy, a rearmed military, and a totalitarian fascist dictatorship, Hitler pursued an aggressive foreign policy with the intention of expanding German Lebensraum ("living space"), which triggered World War II when Germany invaded Poland. At the height of its power, Nazi Germany occupied most of Europe, but it and the Axis Powers were eventually defeated by the Allies. By then, Hitler's racial policies had culminated in a genocide of approximately eleven million people, including about six million Jews, in what is now known as the Holocaust.
In the final days of the war, Hitler committed suicide in his underground bunker in Berlin with his newlywed wife, Eva Braun.

Your question is a sad commentary on how ignorant of history today's kids really are. I'm shocked. Hitler is one of history's greatest villians. He's right up there with Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot and Idi Amin. When it came to killing, Hitler was no slouch. He launched a war that killed at least 60-100 million people the world over. He set America on its way from a quiet, agrarian nation to an industrial powerhouse. He set into motion the world we have today. Many people have postulated what the world would be like if someone had gone back in time and killed Hitler before he became such a monster. We can't do that because the world we have today was in a sense given to us by him. Big wars really change history. Had WW2 never happened, there's no telling where we'd be today. I'm going to say we would have never gone to the moon because the technology that preceded that event would not have had its genesis in the technology generated during WW2. We certainly would not have the miracle medical machines we have today because all of that came out of the space program. You see, tomorrow builds on yesterday. Had Hitler not sparked yesterday, today would be very, very different indeed.

Hes famous for being (practically) the starter of World War II and the Holocaust. His charisma led the Germans from a time of uncertainy and confusion in to something that seemed too real to be true.
Thats just the jist, get more at wikipedia.

"Famous" usually denotes popularity in a positive way. Hitler is better described as infamous--i.e. well known, but not well liked. Anyway, in the mid 1930s, along with his Nazi Party, took over the German government by becoming Chancellor of Germany. He went on to try and take over Europe starting with the invasion of Poland. After his take over plans went into effect, he decided there needed to be someone to blame for Germany sad state and image on the world stage after WWI. So, he decided this was the "Jewish problem" and to fix it he needed to exterminate the Jewish population. He was a fool, an idiot, stupid and just plain evil.
You really should try to research a little more with Yahoo or Google or even wikipedia. He is responsible for WWII and the Holocaust. Good luck on your research, but be warned, some things you will find he caused to happen aren't very pleasant and may be shocking or quite horrific to you.
