That machine will rock for current games. My only concern is the GeForce 7800 GTX video card. There is a new Nvidia card (the 8800 series) that supports Microsoft DirectX 10. If you plan on upgrading and gaming on Windows Vista (comes out Jan 30, 2007), then you will need this card (or another that supports DX10, currently it's the only one).

Overall this is a great rig for now, but in just a few months you'll need to buy a new video card. Video cards can be uber expensive (up to $600), so it might be worth the wait.

From what you listed, you are looking at about $1800 worth of hardware, if you built it yourself using the best off-the-shelf parts.

If you are good at hardware, and enjoy doing it yourself, then why not just have a field day at newegg or tiger and build this puppy the way you want it to act and look? Use the saved grand to step this thing into a whole new class if you want.

Dell has pretty much lousy support for the home user, so other than a hardware runaround and non-existent software support that you get when you have problems with this thing, do not put any value on that. It is utterly worthless.

I am not a Dell basher. The hardware quality is reasonable and they work great for institutions and medium to large business, but a home user does not have the time, resources or multi-lingual abilities to handle support calls with this company. Most of us speak ENGLISH in the U.S., and they need to step up their fluency requirements for support people that deal with us. Nuff Said.

The free support available on the web from all of us geeks in the forums will fix just about anything you need for free (advice, anyway), and the big parts vendors like Newegg and Tiger will replace anything that does not work for up to a year with NO RUNAROUND and NO QUESTIONS.

Be more than a user.

Bite the bullet and build it. Then become a Pro.

That system will be Great for gaming. i do recomend building you own in the future as it will save you TONS of $$$. When i compared my pc to the one dell had i saved like $500. But beware that building you own can take time and can be frustrating but in the end it all pays off.
