hi, its easy just a piece of cake. . listen . Depends on the model but in general case here is what to do

There are 2 cables attached to cd rom. One is called the IDE ( which carries your data) . The other is Power Cable providing Power to CDROM. It will be like red , black and yellow. Pull out both the cables. CD rom is free

When you want to attach it back. It goes from the Front. Slide it back from the front side of your PC. Your CD rom facing towards you. Now the trick is to attach both the cables. Hold the Power cable and plug it into your cdrom. if the cable is in the right positin it will plug in with ease. If its no plugging in then its the wrong position. Hold the IDE cable and check for the slim red line on on side. Match this slim redline with RED cable on the powercable. They should be identical and parallel to each other. then insert the IDE cable. Once done . Go to the BIOS and chekc that your cd rom is detected or not. Ofcourse in the whole operation the PC should be off.

Depends on the model how you remove it. Trying opening the case and looking at it. Whether it is front or back, you will have to open the case to get the cables unplugged. Usually once you have looked at it you can see how to get it out.

There is not much "repair" to a CD. They are a sealed unit. So you usually have to replace the entire drive.

The later HP's have a slide out drive bay, hold the release clip on the left, and slide the drive forward towards yourself.
If the drive is more then 12 months old, I would suggest replacing it rather then trying to fix it.
