USA is a Republic because the head of state is a President. It is not a question of being a democracy OR a republic. the USA happens to be both. The words describe different aspects of the system of government.

That should have read the USA is ALSO a Republic - i.e. as well as being a democracy.

They don't pay attention in school, every public school system in America, (and I've been to a few) teaches civics.(which is, how the country runs, the nature of the government and how to function in it.)
Secondarily, these kids don't see their parents or other role models exercising their right to vote, or serve on juries or even write to their congressman or senators! and if you don't know how to use something properly you won't use it at all!

The United States has a Republic form of government. If it was a democracy, we the people would vote on the bills ourselves. In a Republic representatives are elected to legislate.
States have a mixed form because we elect representatives, but also have referendums to vote on particular issues.
The U.S. is not a democracy, although in ignorance most people think so. I've never yet had a federal law on my ballot to vote on.

why is it that (this is a FACT) 42% of americans don't know that there is 50 states?
and
47% of americans don't know that the sun is a star.
answer? because americans don't really focus nor do they care about anything.

Because - sad to say they are BOOBS who can tell you everything about sports but do not know who wrote the Declaration of Independance.

because they take it for granted. We have it so good here. It is really oblivious espically if you were born here. Have you ever heard the saying" You'll never miss it untill its' gone." That's because most people don't know what they have, until it is taken away. and yes it is a shame. excerize your right!
