my guess is that you have alot of processes running that you don't need.
Goto start/run/msconfig and uncheck any programs that you don't need.
Restart.
Click "no" to not show the message again.

Along with checking for programs that are running that you do not need, also run a good spy checker , like spy doctor. Most computers that run slow are loaded with spies, trojans and keyloggers which use valuable system memory and eat up processing time. Clean it up and watch it come back to life.
