Percussion is the act of using ones hands or other implements to apply varrious amounts of pressure to any object.
In medical terms percussion is a proceedure used to break up lung congestion. The patient lays on his/her stomach and the medical person doing the proceedure "pounds" on the back of the patient with cupped hands.
Drums are the instrument, percussion is the action.
