I had two black skirted tetras in a 5 gallon tank. I have had them for almost three years now and recently one just died. I was just wondering what other fishes get along with this type of tetra? Any advice would be greatful.

I had a number of those years ago, and like yours, they lived a very long time. They do well with all other types of fish - I just don't suggest those albino cat fish - I had one of those, it ate all my other fish. They can become canibalistic.

I've heard these fish can be quite aggressive and there have been cases of them killing other fish. But it depends on YOUR fishes personality.

However you could try a Siamese Fighting Fish however I would keep an eye on it to make sure the tetras don't kill it.

Corydoras catfish get along with anything and only grow quite small, around 2 inches max.

Other than that you could try some other tetra species, really its only your tank size limiting you. Be sure when you do go to purchase fish, watch them carefully and pick those who are getting along, not being aggressive, i've done it once or twice and ended up with a lot of casualties! Good luck.

most tetras live in schools in the wild for safety and security. I suggest that you get a couple more of those tetras and consider upgrading to a larger tank as a 5 gallon is too small for a small school of them.

any other tetra, danio, or live bearing. Do not get chiclids or barbs. Almost any catfish is fine. with a 5 gallon I would go with small bodied fish like neon tetras or zebra danios, maybe guppies.

3 years is pretty good for a 5 gallon tank.
just get another black skirt. they like to school together. ideally, you should get a 20 gallon and have 8 of them together.
