I'm not sure about Brisbane but if you go to this site, they have a contact number and may be able to help you out.

Alex is correct in everything she says. It is not illegal to import tortoises into this country. Just because an animal has the right certificate does not mean the animal is UK Captive Bred. All the tortoises you see in petshops are foreign imports being passed off as captive bred (note that they never say UK Captive bred). If you look at any of the Article 10 certificates supplied with tortoises such as Hermanns the place of import or origin will often be Slovenia or Germany. Internet sellers of tortoises are no better either they are selling the same animals from the same places. No breeder in this country would pass them on to a petshop to sell their precious babies (I certainly wouldn't!) considering the poor advice they give on their care which results in death in just a few years. If you want a tortoise seek out a breeder! not a petshop or internet dealer! But firstly you need to do your research and know what species you wish to keep and how to keep it best. Alex has given you the right links to do some good research. If you do buy a petshop or internet tortoise be prepared for big vet bills and wasting a lot of money on equipment (viv's, heatmats and pellet food).
