when you open an account the bank will ask you if you have already one with another bank. I guess they can find out anyway, as for the purpose of credit checks and your rating. You could also open a savings account or just a current account. You may be ask why you want to open an account with a different bank. you may ask to have a second account with the same bank for a different purpose. I am not an expert but I have more than one account still.

Yes and it is good to have more then one account. Make sure that you are maintaining the minimum balance in all of your accounts and make sure that you don't accrue any monthly fees. Credit unions are great because they usually have good financing rates and are very friendly. the only thing i would warn you about is make sure that you can do on-line banking and their branch is close to your home or work. I would set up direct deposit in your wamu account and use it to pay the bills. Your credit union account i would use for non traditional expenditures.
Based on the simplicity of your question i would suggest that you talk to someone you respect and or know is financially sound to go over personal finance with you. Or go take a class in your local college.

You can open as many accounts as you wish with different banks and credit unions. Also in the same bank you can open, one checking, one savings and one joint checking, one joint
savings, one money market checking account , one joint money market checking and other available
non checking accounts. But you must remember you have to keep abreast of accounts and make sure you do not overdraw. The banks and similar institutions are very quick to charge money on overdrawing, minimum balance maintenance and other related charges.

Yes you can have multiple accounts only if you can operate them.
These accounts can also be in defferent banks. It can also be in the same banks.
Infact if you are a business man with huge sum, it is not advisable to invest in one account in a bank, because, the bank could liquidate, and you will lose your money, as it is said. DO NOT LAY YOURS EGGS IN A BASKET.

Yep, I have several. I have 5 at one bank, 3 at another, and 3 at even another. I pay tax on all of them. As long as the government gets their tax money, you can have as many as you want.
