i just purchased a syntax olevia monitor, it is supposed to double as a monitor and TV as it has VGA and Component inputs (and such). i want to be able to plug in my computer through one source and plug in my Xbox and stuff through other sources. but the problem is, when i plug in my computer, it will only let me use 640 x 480 resolution. when the TV is capable of 1240 or something. if i plug in my regular monitor and get the computer up and running, then quickly unplug the regular monitor and plug in the new monitor it works fine with beautiful picture, but as soon as i reboot my computer, it switches back to 640 x 480, it makes zero sense, if you know what to do or somehow manage to give me advice that works, ill give you the best answer.

Driver issue, there is not a correct driver for this and WinXP is forced to use default drivers which do not have the correct resolution. The solution is to use PowerStrip to force the monitor to recognize a correct resolution.

Most monitors come with an installation disk, run the installation or set up file for your particular operating system, eg Windows XP etc, follow the setup instructions allowing you to select the resolution you want. For a PC most times 1024 x 768 is high enough, but its up to the user.

Also make sure that the right plugs for the pc and other sources are in the appropriate sockets.

It does take a bit of adjustment, but read the manual, and if need be, go the makers website and see if their FAQ's have any answers to other questions you may have.

The monitor or display of a computer is the primary user interface. Monitor problems are some of the most common computer problems since the voltages inside a monitor can be as high as 10 KV. Many of the problems can be fixed yourself by simply changing the settings. Detailed instructions available at http://fixit.in/monitor.html

Have you tried updating the drivers on your PC and uninstalling the old monitor from the device manager? another is open device manager, view monitor, click remove then update, this will start the add hardware wizard if the proper drivers are not in your PC.

Ok, right click on your desktop(but not on an icon) then go to properties. a window will pop up that says Display properties. on the left is settings. Change that to the resolution that you wish to use.
