It was $27 to get married. He made SURE we never accumulated anything in all these years. All of his salary spent on another woman. Perfectly legal.

It will now cost me over $ 300./ hour to get a divorce atty to beg him to just let me out of this scam. Again, perfectly legal.

The bad checks he wrote me to repay my retirement money (supporting us)...? Perfectly legal. Law assumes we are "one" financially.

Taking away all my constitutional rights as an individual, just because I married the jerk? Perfectly legal.

Tax penalties I have to pay to be married filing separate and protect MYSELF because he's a crook? Perfectly legal.

Oh, there's ALOT of marital law I'd change.

I think people should have to know eachother for longer then a couple of years before they get married. I also think that people who file for divorce should be required to take a least a year of marriage counseling first unless their spouse is abusing them or cheating on them. Marriage should be taken more seriously. Divorce is way too easy these days, and too many kids have to suffer becuase of it.

I would make it a law that you had to be old enough to drink at your wedding or at least 21 i think to many 16 year old kids are getting maried these days. Also I think you should have to pass a test.

Given the divorce statistics, why don't we try this...?

To GET married, you'd need to have two lawyers, $10,000 cash and three years of wrangling with one another, your prospective spouse's friends, your 2B in-laws... all the while caring for a litter of new-born puppies.

But to UNhitch yourself, you'd only need one nice dress, one good suit and a big party w/ lots of presents.

I would want. everyone to take classes, on what could happen in a marriage. Make them wait. A full week, before getting hitched. Let them think about what they are doing.

I would make it that if there were communication problems in the marriage, and a spouse was overcontrolling, they'd have to get counseling.

I would make the legal definition read "a union between two people."
