He will be un my prayers but remain optomisic....6 months the baby has a 30 to 40% chance at survival. See him as offten as possible & call local churches to have him put on the prayer chain. My prayers are w/ you , your family & nephew.

My nephew was born 13 years ago preemie at 24 weeks and he weighed 1 lb, 6 oz.
The doctors (especially that long ago) were certain he would die or be a vegetable. I am happy to say he is a fairly healthy 13 year old. He has had alot of setbacks as an infant and alot of surgeries, but he can read at high school level and he gets great grades in school. He has some problems, poor short term memory and autistic traits, but that is because he had bleeding in his brain at one time, not just because he was a preemie. They really can do amazing things now. There is certainly hope. My nephew made it and I bet yours will too. I will pray for you right now. Congratulations on your new family member, even if he couldn't wait to get here.

It's a long uphill battle, but most kids at six months do make it. One pound three ounces is small, though. Here are survival statistics:

I hope everything goes well and that you get to hold your little nephew soon.
Hospitals can do amazing things for tiny babies. You might want to have your sister-in-law look into Kangaroo Care. It really helps. Here is one website, but if you do a google search, you'll find lots more.

Modern technology has made some amazing advances. There is a good chance that the baby will be ok. He may have breathing problems for a long time and may always be a bit small for his age, but hope for the best.
I wish you and your family luck!

That is really early, but he is right around the time when the baby has a chance to survive. It is small, but smaller babies have lived. I'll say prayers for your family.
