I am just wondering what is a good midlevel, medium size college that would provide a good base for law school, prb a good history department......but I can not go to anything huge, because my gpa is not where it "should be" a 2.6-2.9 at a pretty hard prep school and I always seem to gravitate to the classes that are a little hard. So if anyone knows of a medium size college that is not impossible to get into that may have a decent prelaw major course or history department let me more plz

thanks

ps im a junior in highschool just so you know

Without knowing your SAT scores, it's hard to say. But keep in mind that if you are at a top prep school, the admissions officers will take that into consideration when looking at your GPA. If you do very well on the SAT, if your letters of recommendation are great, and if your essay is literate and well-composed, you should do fine, and you might even be able to shoot higher than you think.

A decent SAT score should give you an excellent shot at these very good colleges:

College of William and Mary*
University of Richmond
University of Connecticut
University of Vermont
University of Virginia*
Boston College

* = aspirational schools - harder to gain admissions

Lower SAT?

Roger Williams U
Clark University
Quinnipiac U
Fairfield U
UNH

Oh, and "pre-law" is not a major. To get into law school later, choose a major that focuses on writing and critical thinking. History is a great choice, but just choose something you love, and do very well in that major. Law schools don't care what you major in, but they DO care whether you can read closely and critically, and write well.

Best wishes to you!

Have you considered doing 2 years at community college then transfering to a bigger school?

Honestly, your GPA is a bit low for a law program. But there are plenty of community colleges that have programs that get you into a bigger university. Not a 2 year degree, but a program built specifically to transfer credits into a 4 year major at UVA or VT. I've heard good things about NVCC in particular, you should look there.
