He was trying to warn us all about the terrorists, yet he was treated very poorly. The real problem with this country is the politicians, regardless of their party. They do what is good for the party, not the people.

He took the rap to protect those above him, who were behind the scheme. He paid the price they should have payed. They will now make sure he is rewarded for the rest of his life. I would love to know what he knows.

He wasn't warning us about terrorists. We knew about them already. The whole problem with Iran-Contra was us DOING BUSINESS with them without Congress approving. All this was done behind America's back and the hammer wound up coming down on Ollie.
But I do agree that the politicians and the current 2 parties are often the problem, not the solution.

Oliver North took the fall for his higher ups, he was illegally supplying weapons to Iran to get money to fund Contra rebels in Central or South America. This was after Congress passed a law making it illegal. It was at the hearings on this subject that his President used the answer "I just don't recollect" to get out of answering incriminating questions, an answer that was later used again by Clinton. He served jail time, his conviction was eventually reversed by a judge who had been appointed by Reagan or Bush, I forget which one. It was a very sad time, a time when many of my generation figured out that the lying and cheating didn't end when Nixon quit and we got out of VietNam - it was just business as usual in our government.

Iran Contra had nothing to do with terrorists, but with secretly selling arms to one of our worst enemies - Iran - and then using the money to fund the Contra rebels in Nicaragua. I don't see how helping one of our enemies and using funds without the knowlege of the people helped us at all.

Oh, yeah. I remember him! Warn us about the terrorists? Uh, no. He was helping to cover up yet another example of the treasonous nature of the Bush family!

You speak with great wisdom grasshopper.
when the rest of the world witnesses all of the internal pissing and moaning taking place within our government, they see it as a sign of weakness and jump at the chance to exploit that perception. but then we all knew that the very second after the New York skyline had changed right?

Agreed. Maybe if our government wasn't so bogged down in partisan politics, we could get some good accomplished, here at home and in the mid-east... Both parties need to work harder on that.

Yes - it was one of the highlights of the Reagan presidency. One that people seem to forget in their rush to spout love and affection for Reagan. Remember, he was Bush's idol. Now there's a scary thought.
