Do you believe that the assassination of these people was a political tool or simply the work of four lone nuts as our government would like us to believe? My question is prompted by the opening of the new movie "Bobby"

You are absolutely correct Alayna. I would definitely include him in my list especially after seeing the movie the US vs John Lennon recently, which I thought was fabulous. Thanks for reminding me.

Redondo, I try to keep an open mind about everything including conspiracies. This is because I majored in history so the idea about plots going on behind the scenes is not totally alien to my way of thinking and why would there have to be "hundreds of people involved" in these assassinations as you put it?

Janie, thank you for your very thoughtful answer. I also read your answer to the question about the meaning of the movie Bobby and LOVED your comments to the character who said "Who cares...." I care. I cared then and I care now.

pvmbtaj12, According to the Warren Commission which is the official government report on the JFK assassination, he was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald. He was married to a Russian at the time, Marina, but he himself was an American. The other alleged assassin of Robert Kennedy was Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian. What is interesting about that is that Sirhan to this day does not remember anything at all about the shooting.

revised--may want to reread.
I think it is too much of a co-incidence for the three men JFK, RFK< and MLK, all men with strong ability to shape and inspire and motivate people's direct involvement with political activism and changing the way we do business in a more equal, compassionate, sweeping way that would have reformed it from the grassroots up were too dangerous to be given that platform.
Even so, the work of all three lives on in what they started. Many of the grassroots activists and voting rights advocates I work today with who are very political inclined tell of Bobby Kennedy inspiring them and having a strong impact on their beliefs and pushing some towards long time activist work. Some still quote him, including myself. Was recently told this by our independent candidate for governor of Ohio, Fritrakis who sued Bush in 2004 on behalf of disenfranchised voters and wrote books about stolen election (freepress.org). Same goes for JFK and MLK...even though they were stopped in their prime, they still effected great change in people's hearts with their own intelligence, compassion, and insight. They had the gift of being able to inspire people in a deep way. What a shame they were taken from us..had they lived, I believe our world today would have been entirely different but the same type of evil men who rule us today did this evil in our earlier years. They took away our hope and our innocence. Who is there to inspire us such today for we are hungry for such a person?
I saw the movie last night; see my reviews and the comments it inspired in me here http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArPfLokUzs8yFdMcFTGl9GLsy6IX?qid=20061121072830AApWEwU Today someone I didn't know in a group I am in online who did not know I saw the movie sent me his comments about these two articles..worth your time to read them. see the sources below for the links.

You either believe that 4 lone nuts cut these guys down or you believe in the conspiracy theory, the only problem with the conspiracy theory is that there would have had to be hundreds of people involved in these 4 assassinations and that means hundreds of mouths being shut forever. I mean no book deals, no movie rights, no pillow talk between lovers and that just has not happened these past 43 years. Now can the groups like the CIA influence these nuts to do the things they did like our friend suggests in the first answer and keep it quiet you bet, but the bottom line is these people killed our leaders plain and simple.

And if those actions WERE intended as a political tool, do you think the executioners actually got the results they desired? I'd say not. It may be a stretch to say this, but I compare it to the scene in Star Wars where Obi Wan Kenobi tells Darth Vader, "If you strike me down now, I will only become more powerful than you can imagine," or some such. Honestly, the tragic loss of a social, political, activist, or all-of-the-above leader through assassination tends to galvanize the surviving victims, thus making the leader more powerful in death than he or she was in life.
That said, even four or five lone nuts are probably political animals of some stripe, regardless of whether they have connections with any type of political organizations.

Murdering people isn't how Americans deal with different views. If that was the case, Bush would have been shot 6 million times. It's what happens when people rock the boat and stand up or whats right. I say what's right because people who do good and stand up for what is just don't assassinate people who feed on hatred and ignorance, but people who embrace hate and anger act out at the people who stand for freedom and togetherness. John F Kennedy was catholic, and supported the civil rights movement. Malcolm X turned from the Nation of Islam to promote togetherness rather than segregation, so they offed him. MLK desired peace and brotherly love between all races, sosupremacistss who felt they were too good to share their rights with blacks shot him. John Lenon was shot because he was so famous, and someone wanted to be remembered. It's all unjust, and it's all too common.

Absolutely nothing is as it seems.
Would it help me to win best answer if I was to tell you that Malcom X and Robert Kennedy were both clandestine assasinations led by US intelligence groups? Would you believe me if I told you that?
Would you believe me if I told you that Oswald was the only shooter for Bobbie's older brother?
It's all true.
MLK was actually just one crazy honkey with a rifle, and so was JFK, but you are absolutely right about the other two.

It always seemed odd to me that the people who killed the Kennedy's were foreigners, but nothing has come out yet.
I do believe Martin Luther King was shot by an angry southerner who was against Black's having more rights.
I believe Marilyn Monroe's murder was a conspiracy, because she was going to talk.

Kind and X were political / racial.
The Kennedys were killed by the mob - and it serves them right for getting involved with such people.
