It's simple, miles driven divided by gallons used :)

Miles per gallon is figured by taking the amount of fuel used and the distance traveled. The easy way is to start with a full tank of fuel, and note the odometer mileage. Drive the car. When you need gas, fill the tank again! Note the mileage now, and the amount of fuel you needed to fill the tank!

Subtract your starting mileage from the mileage when you refilled the tank, This is the distance you have driven Divide the miles driven by the amount of fuel used to figure miles per gallon!

For example you fill the car and the odometer reads 25,227. When you refill the tank the miles are 25, 477.

25,477 -25,227 = 250 miles you have traveled

Assume that you added 10 gallons of fuel to refill the tank.

Divide the miles you have driven by the amount of fuel used.

250 / 10= 25

In this case you will have gotten 25 miles to the gallon!

Fill your tank up and reset the trip meter. The next time you put gas in your car make sure to read how many gallons it took off of the gas pump and divide that by the number of miles on the trip meter.

if you don't start with a full tank and end with a full tank, it is hard to tell accurately how many gallons you used per mile
