All the answers here are funny. Since it happens when you flush the toilet or use the sink, I as a amature plumber would suggest that you have a venting problem. What is happening is when you use a drain you need air to help the water go down. When you don't get the air, the water is sucked out of the trap and you smell the sewer gases.
The trap is the U shaped pipe under your sink. It is built into your toilet.
If you have a vent pipe coming out of you roof. (I really hope you do) it may be clogged with leaves, dead birds, bugs or other junk.
Fix..get a snake and push it into the vent pipe from the roof down.
In case you don't know....a snake is a coil of flexable steel used ny plumbers to clear clogged sewer pipes and vents.
As for the worms in your water pipe, quit watch those horror movies and leave them drugd alone.

in case you turn on the faucet, and permit it run for a jiffy does the scent stop. If it does then the main person-friendly problem would be a blocked vent pipe and whilst the bathroom in that line is flushed the only way that the water will bypass down is to suck the water out of the traps letting sewer gas up into your residence. it particularly is something that the development superintendent desires to restoration. you do no longer point out that the sink drains slowly so i do no longer anticipate that it particularly is plugged with hair, in case you look down the drain in specific circumstances you will discover the hair there. i'd block the overflow, very nearly fill the sink with water, go away the water working, pull the plug, and take a verify out utilising a plunger to loosen the blockage so as that it washes away.

A home that old does not have a trap line so what your dealing with is coming right from your sewer, the little worms are just an idea of what is really down there. Say move out or finance a new plumbing job.

Worms are in most water systems, why everyone doesn't filter their water is beyond me. There are very few water systems anywhere that don't need filtering. Get a whole house filter and install it at the feed, be diligent about changing it on time. That being said, if there are no leaks in your drains, either your vent has a rotting pipe or the vent is obstructed.

Since the house is old I'm sure it has the metaltype plumming that can rust over time. Its really not that expensive to replace it with the PVC pipes. I would let that be my 1st project to do. Our house is over 100 yrs. old and we would have a bad smell come from our kitchen sink and sure enough the pipes had rusted and the water was running underneath the house. We replaced them all with PVC and are very happy with them.

You need to add a pee trap at the first level of the house. This is a goose necked shaped pipe that holds water in it to prevent odors from coming back up through the pipes.

You have one or two problems. The wax seal under the commode is leaking, and or there is no trap on your drain line. Don't know about the bugs.
