those vids are great, tnx for the link. i like it that they're not OA or too self-promotional.
anyway, to your Q. linking up with unicef certainly creates a lot of goodwill for barca, and that’s obviously good for business. i think the tie-up is really a master stroke bec. aside from the prestige of unicef, football which barca is bringing into the partnership is the world game, watched by everyone young and old, rich and poor, and kids all over love it, so it’s good economics to ride on that and that’s probably why this idea was conceived in the 1st place. but then again children’s causes are really easy to fall into, we all have a soft spot for these things, so maybe the genuine desire to help is really THERE. bottomline is, whatever barca’s motivations are, unicef will stand to benefit a whole lot from these arrangements and that to me is the most impt. thing: financially, there’s that cash pledge of 1.5 mil euro which is a big help, and promotionally, too, in terms of the linkage itself, unicef gets a leg up --- barca is a hugely popular team and ronaldinho with his inspiring success story and wholesome image sets a good example for evry1, so all these can only help unicef attract more institutional support for its initiatives in promoting children’s welfare. it’s a win-win situation for both parties in terms of exposure but I’d also like to think that barca is a club that really wants to make a difference....

As far as club management go, it would be great PR to be involved with such a respected organization. I would like to think that of equal concern was the causes that UNICEF stand for. As far as the players are concerned, I doubt they had a great deal of say in it, but am sure that players there coming from such diverse backgrounds are well aware or have experienced the poverty and hardships children around the world face. Barca players as well as most others have the financial capacity and means to help out anyway without a deal if they wanted to. As for UNICEF they would have been looking for a respected and popular club and players that will draw attention to their causes and represent the organization in a positive light. So probably a tad of both but as long as all the needy and suffering children are the beneficiaries, I say well done and congratulations.
Sorry, I was unable to access the link at the moment.

well i just love this part of the article......"FC Barcelona is more than a club for many people living elsewhere in Spain, who see Barça as a staunch defender of democratic RIGHTS and FREEDOM." They're such a prominent club coz i mean what other club can say they're as charitable as Barca? I don't think it's for the money since they've never advertised any other brand on their jerseys (except Nike). Barca hopefully will influence other clubs and step in the right direction to fight poverty, hunger and abandoned kids......much respect to them and UNICEF...
andygirl deserves the10 points! i couldn't have said it better myself!! lol

Yes Barca is a very good club with lots of good players and they are always ready to help whenever they are needed. As a devout Chelsea Fan i wish Barca good luck for their future and pray that they will continue their good form, and continue helping the needy.

I think that they are incredible for the above mentioned reason...because they not only play really amazing football (the majority of the time) but they also help many people in need.
I believe that all their charity efforts are sincere...if Mourinho was still at the club I might question their motives...
