Fred Phelps takes aim at schoolkids killed in bus crash?
They're now planning to do their schtick at the funerals of the kids killed in the Huntsville, AL school bus wreck, and no I am not making this up.

WAFF 48 News has learned and confirmed that members of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., are planning to demonstrate at the funeral of the I-565 bus wreck victims Nicole Ford and Christine Collier.

The group often holds protests at the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq.

The church runs an anti-homosexuality web site.

We spoke with a member of the church and verified their plans and the Huntsville Police Department has received a permit request from the group.

Before ANYONE uses this to bash Christians, let me first say, as a Christian, that the church openly CONDEMNS Mr. Phelps and his church's activities.

He is as Anti-American, and pro-hatred as they come... His "church" is made up of less than ninety people, most of whom are Mr. Phelps' relatives... And as far as I know, that number is going down.

In short? Mr. Phelps needs to be institutionalized.

Fred Phelps is a morally retarded, socially inept, ******** who doesn't deserve the time that we're spending typing about him now. I do believe that people need to be made aware of his idiosyncrasies and that we should all vow to fight this type of ignorance.

Check out the Patriot Guard web site below. This is the group that a lot of other answerer's have written about. The PGR is a veterans group who attends funerals with large flags and bag pipes. The flags are meant to block the funeral goers from seeing Phelps and bag pipes are meant to keep them from hearing his ignorant rants. Anyone can join the group on their rides-- even if you do not have a bike you can ride along in your car or truck. You can volunteer to carry flags, food, drinks, motorcycle supplies, etc. Contact someone on the web site--preferably someone from your area and see what you can do to help.

There is a group that also attends those soldier's funerals. Perhaps they will do this one too. They place themselves between that guy's group and the funeral service, lining up with American flags to honor the dead. They make no noise and are respectful, using the flags to block the view of the protestors from the families of the deceased in order to allow them a dignified ceremony.

As a Christian, it's hard to deal with those extremists who have so little compassion for thought for others in forwarding their own agenda.

God Bless the children and their loved ones in this time of grief and bring them peace. Amen.

Yes, they're sick.

I'm not sure who this Fred Phelps is or who these people are. I've heard a little bit about them in regards to their demonstrating at the funerals of our fallen men and women in the armed forces. Yes, it's despicable and shouln't be tolerated. I mean, how low can you go? Please, don't let them rent space in your mind by trying to figure them out or their agenda. You know, there is a saying and I've found that there's a lot of truth to it: "What goes around comes around."

This is ridiculous. They are probably not gay, and they are not in the military. Why would they feel the need to do this?

Those, inbred (yes, they are), wanna-be Christian, anti-everything other than what those sick-o's believe don't deserve the air they breathe.

There's a biker group who's been following them around, carrying big American Flags, standing in front of these poor excuses for human being, singing patriotic songs to drown out their chants. Sounds like these people need to show up there, as well.
