O sweetie..you should check out some of the questions I have asked...around 8 to 20 weeks I had about 5 questions on here about that...it SUCKS soo bad...I am 25 weeks now and all is going well...so IT DOES GO AWAY WHOOHOO lol...I was the same way..I tried prunes..prune juice...no laxatives tho..that can be scary..as you have experienced...all I can tell you...is that the only thing that got me through was stool softners (call your doc and they can tell you which ones they suggest..over the counter wise)...all bran cereals..tastes soo bland but it could be worse...drank a cup of prune juice a day..and exercised...but pinky promise..if you can hang in there til 20 weeks...it goes away...I was soo constipated one morning I woke up crying cuz my stomach and back hurt from not being able to go.....I called the doctor and she said that one of the most common reasons for constipation in pregnancy is dehydration..I rolled my eyes and thought well thanks for the help...cuz I thought I was consuming enough water....so then I got good and mad lol...grabbed a glass filled that thing full with water and downed as many glasses I could...I kept water in my hand all freaking day...and what do ya know...I got to go..it didnt stop the constipation completely but if your looking for a quick fix to make yourself feel better (cramping and stuff)...gatorade (only one little bottle tho...has soo much salt in it your feet and hands will swell if you drink to much)...and as much water as you can get your hands on...makes you go..good luck sweetie..I feel so bad for you...I was in your boat awhile back..fortunatly..im trying to give you a paddle lol.

The surge in pregnancy hormones will cause the constipation.
Make sure you are drinking at least 8-10 glasses of water a day.
Try walking about 30 minutes each day (no jogging!).
Gradually build this up to about 40 minutes a day(if you are not too tired).
Walking gets the heart going and stimulates your blood and helps with metabolism.
Actually too much fibre can cause constipation(so i have now learnt).
Try eating more fruit and vegetables(slightly uncooked).
But the best I can recommend at this stage is walking(some gentle exercise are good - check with dr. first, please)
and increase your water intake.
Don't drink coffee tea or alcohol. Besides being very bad for your pg, they may constipate you as well.
Best of luck and hopefully it will get better as you go along in your pg.

Are you drinking 8 glasses (64 oz) of water a day? I'm 10 weeks pregnant and I drink 2 liters of water a day. I can honestly say that I "go" at least once a day. You're probably not drinking enough water. Good luck. P.S. Fiber will actually cause constipation.

Poor thing. Eat plenty of vegetables and high fiber breads and cereals. Stay away from refined sugary foods. Drink at least 124 ouces of water a day and get some walking in your day, too.
I pray for a healthy baby and a gentle delivery.

The same thing happened to me. It turned out that the iron supplements the doctor had me take were causing me to be constipated. I spoke to her, and she said that the vitamins I was taking had enough, so I could eliminate the extra iron. I did, and guess what? No more constipation!

If you are on iron pills (or prenatal vitamins-- change to just folic acid) get off them and start eating foods high in iron. When my doc wanted to prescribe iron to me I told him I wouldn't take it because I knew that it would make me even more consitpated then I was, he said fine but asked me to eat iron rich foods instead and everything was great and my next blood test was fine.
Also try to stay active with plenty of walking or swimming is great and drink lots of water =)

well you didn't mention water itself, which is the best you can take. I am 7.5 months pregnant and not once have I been constipated and I think it is because of the 80oz of water I drink EVERY DAY, you might want to give that a try.

this sounds really weird.. when my best friend was pg she was all telling me how she was constipated.. what she would do was set your feet flat on the floor, bend down where ur chest is touching your knees, arch your back and push and pull up the whole time your back is arched she always told me that she wouldn't push to hard just a little..dont force it.. ... haha it sounds stupid but she said it worked.. so try it..

Talk to your doctor ASAP and meanwhile, Google it and see what is safe to use. Also, drink A LOT of water.
