An external hard drive? Not really. Dont drop it on the floor. Dont pour a glass of Coke on top of it. That's about it.

Handle it carefully so that nodamge occurs. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/ hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful

Since it is external and encased in a cabinet, no special handling is required. You can treat it the same way you treat your computer.

No special handling, treat it like all computer stuff, keep it well ventilated, blow out dust, and place it where you won't spill anything on it, enjoy.
