Grandma passed away earlier this month and I was out to the house helping everyone get set up for the auction. And in Grandma's Jewerly thing was a plumb 18k gold ring. It has little marks carved into it. On the inside of the band it says Plumb 18k. I have no idea when it was purchased or for how much, or from what jewerly company. But does anyone have any idea on its value.

"Plumb Gold" is a term coming from U.S. law regarding product standards.

The law set legal tolerances for karat gold since 1976. The law allows a variation of 3 parts per 1000 (.072 karat) on unoldered goods and .007 (.168 karat) on soldered objects. This is called "Plumb (i.e. accurate) Gold." Manufacturers were given until 1981 to dispose of their old merchandise made at lower standards.

The value of the ring is difficult to determine from the information given. Value would depend on the amount of 18k gold used to make the ring, the condition of the ring, and possibly on the quality of the design and the manufacturer.

Your best bet is to take it to a jeweler for an estimate of its value. Do not under any circumstances sell it to the first jewelry who appraises it. Make certain you get more than one appraisal.

Good luck.

It is a nice ring. You have 10kt,14kt,18kt,24kt the 24 kt gold is a very soft gold the best is 18kt gold the 14kt you will see this in Italian jewelery and also in the USA jewelery stores the color in the 18 kt it is very rich the 14kt is more in the yellow side . I like better 18kt also is more expensive because is more gold in the mix. The sentimental value has no price .I hope this will help you.
