I was always taught to listen to people when they speak and acknowledge what they say. I'm not one of those people who talk non-stop so I wonder why people ignore me. It makes me feel like everything I say is stupid so I don't say much most of the time.

Maybe the way you talk or express is not attractive or did you use your words carefully? Perhaps the topics is not what others like. Try to talk sensible with care, and do not offense others. See what interests others before talking. And never interrupt. Hope it helps.

Even when reading people don't listen. What they said was they were always taught, not that they always did what they were taught.
If people seem to ignore you when you are talking, I know exactly how you feel. I have always had a problem with self esteem and no matter how hard I try, I just can't seem to grow out of it. Even though I am in my 50's now, as a child I felt that everything I wanted to say was unimportant and when I am in a group of people and I feel that what I say is being ignored compared to others in the group, all of those childhood feelings come rushing back so I just shut up and remove myself from the conversation and sometimes from the group altogether. If you don't feel this way, then you don't understand and there's no need for you to respond to this unless you have studied psychology or you know my past, just sayin'.

Yeah, I know that feeling, and If they ever bothered to actualy listen, they may find our opinion to be quite reverant and spot on. I'm just not a big yakker, I'm more of the observant type, which is fine with me. My good freinds know they can ask my advice and get something meaningfull and inteligent as an answer, the others who have no real desire to hear anything but themselves jabbering, I have grown to care less about. It used to hurt my feelings, but I don't allow that anymore, It's their loss, and actualy a benefit for people like us, because we will save the important and benificial opinions for ourselves, and those who know enough to value our ideas. We often have to pay for being a mannerfull person. But I will still never change into a rude person, just for some kind of personal gain. My karmic balance and final judgement mean more to me than being popular.

I had the same problem, its because you've got to speak up and speak with confidence. I'm not sure how confident you are, but I know I had a lack of confidence at one point in my life and this could be the reason why it seems like people are ignoring you. Talk so you can be heard.

All people feel like you, except those who have been paid to speak. How any man can listen to 6 billion mouths. So, just send your good thoughts into the air, and they will reach the ears of righteous people. You feel sad, perhaps because you have not known the effect of beautiful sounds.

Most probably, it is because you don't say much most of the time that people assumed that there is nothing to gain from conversation with you. Sometimes it also depend on who you talking to, the topic and the environment.

Because people are rude, selfish, and don't care. If they don't listen when you are trying to have a friendly conversation or a calm, thought-provoking debate, then talk to others. If you tend to blab on and on or nag, then its no wonder. Listen to what your saying: I think it's their fault, since you say you don't talk much.

Frankly I find it very rude when others fail to pause and listen to others.

My ex's family have a prediliction for interupting her and/or ignoring her when she tried to talk. I was so angry at one point that I threatened intervention but she told me not so.

I don't know how to address this politely, except to say 'I was saying something' and see how people respond.

Its so impolite that it really angers me...

Apologies.
