Because the others are too busy masking their insecurity by being boisterous. You know what they say, if you can't dazzle them with your brilliance, baffle them with your... They're kids and they haven't learned. Mom and Dad aren't watching... Just keep on being you.

College people tend to do a lot of things in excess. Like talking, partying, and having affairs. Don't let the frenzy trick you into thinking that this is reality. It is only as real as the college culture allows it to be. Outside those invisible walls is a whole world of sane, quiet, intelligent people like you. They are on campus too, but like you, they may just be hiding out under the flying hormones and inflated egos. :)

Yeah, I guess, they fade into the background, because the talkative ones are always on the spotlight. They're probably just hanging out somewhere behind the scene.

Yes, the quiet ones tend to fade into the background... and it sucks because I've know a lot of them (I tend to seek them out) because they tend to be the most interesting and exciting people to spend time with - regardless of whether its conversation or great sex...
Its the quiet ones who are truly awesome.
Where are you - I may able to hook you up with a group of similar 'shyness'...
