It doesnt seem to matter what the illness, cold,flu upset stomach, even the dreaded morning after 'headache from hell' hangovers,if I eat a bowl of chicken soup it cures all everytime.....whats up with that? Is there like a special secret ingredient hidden in those little chunks of chicken?

The broth hydrates you without you even knowing it because soup is food but you dont realize its actually so much water.

Carbs from noodles provide energy to fight off those demon germs.

Protien makes you strong and revitalizes your body.

1 + 2 + 3 = You feel GREAT

it is a suppressed remedy. once you do it at a point in your life that may be your last, many sick young people have no other memories of parents with any great medical knowledge would have only the enthusiasm and a few supplies in the house to try and bring up a family with and hope and chicken soup was always a tradition of those who had as little as that to offer and in many times this was keeping the American dream alive with nothing more than hope and chicken soup..split pea & ham is a great revitalizer too

Rennard's wife Barbara Rennard made up a batch of her grandmother's chicken soup, which includes chicken, onions, sweet potato, parsnips, turnips, carrots, celery stems, and parsley. Rennard said his wife added no salt but did include matzo balls, a kind of dumpling.

Personally, I think it's the parsley.....

I think there are three reasons
1. The broth is thick and soothing and surprisingly hearty
2. The steam helps with clogged nasal passages
3. (most important) It probably reminds you of your mother's (or care-giver's) love..that can be the best healer of all...
