I'm trying to integrate my blackberry 8700 into an S430. The car has an integrated phone option for some 2001 model (probably a Star Tac or some such). Any ideas if this is doable? Difficult? and what is necessary? Thanks.

Unless you have a phone that was current when the car was new, you're going to be out of luck, cellular software has changed since then.

I took my '02 S600 into a Mercedes dealer and talked to their electrcian guru who had attempted to reconfigure the software to be compliant with 'an 01 and had no luck.

I checked with all the cellular manufacturers that made or make phones that work/worked with MB models. Nothing worked out.
Maybe you can find an older phone that would work on ebay or craigslist. That's probably going to be your only shot.

The 2001 S class started with either a Motorola StarTac or Timeport phone. It is possible to upgrade to a Motorola V60 setup with a new cradle and a new PSE (basically the brains). Once you've done this you can then install a MBZ bluetooth puck in the cradle and buy a MBZ branded bluetooth compatible phone (must be MBZ branded with MBZ software or you run the risk of blowing up your COMAND system--about 6K to replace).

Where you are going to run into problems is your blackerry is not likely MBZ branded and lacks the required software to integrate.

Good idea, tho, I'm sure MBZ will try to figure out a way to make that work.

You can't. The integrated phone was a Mercedes provided Motorloa unit. That's the only one you can use with it.

Most in car phone thingys use bluetooth technology to connect with your phone. If your new blackberry has bluetooth, it will most likely work. I would consult your car's owners manual before continuing

Unfortunately no, the integrated phone for your car is specifically mercedes, while it is a startac phone, it must be a mercedes startac, a generic one won't even work.
