Well, statistically men make more than women - in a capitalist society that makes them more valuable. However, I agree with the previous poster that sexism has been around longer than capitalism.

I think James B nailed it. Back in the day, men were the ones who primarily worked for wages which is what is valued in a capitalist society. While it's not a direct result of capitalism, you could sure say it helped reinforce it. That's probably where you were getting at.

Sexism has been around far longer than capitalism. Sexism is rooted in the religious -isms, not the political or economic ones.

I don't believe it can...not a sole result, anyway. Sexism has thrived in every imaginable market system.
